Flying is a great way to escape from enemies. With a few flaps of its wings, a bird can get to a safe perch, out of the reach of a hungry cat! Being able to fly also helps birds to move quickly from one feeding ground to another, and catch insects that buzz through the air. Birds are able to migrate because they can fly. Migration is a yearly activity among birds where birds fly away when winter approcahes even crossing continents, to find warmer climate to live in. They breed and find food in these places, and return to their homes when winter is over. Through migration, flocks of birds are able to cover long distances, and spend their time in climate suited to them.
