Where are the kidneys and what do they do?

The kidneys are two bean shaped organ, 10 to 12.5 cms long, situated on either side of the spine a few centimeters above the waistline, that is approximately in the middle of your upper back.
The kidneys act as filters to purify the blood. They squeeze out waste materials and send them through the bladder as urine. The 'clean' blood is then sent on its way through the bloodstream to nourish the body.
