A tin can is an air-tight container made of thin metal. Tin cans are not made solely of tin, but rather tin-coated steel or tinplate.

Tin has many advantages that make it the natural choice for cans. It does not react with oxygen, water or the acids in food and its salts are completely harmless to man. This is why millions of tons of meat, fish, fruits and vegetables are preserved in tin cans. Why don't you just go to your supermarket and check out how many tin cans of food there are on the shelves. You can be sure there will be plenty!
